Revs Institute brings the Targa Florio-winning Porsche RS-60 to the inaugural F.A.T. International Ice Race in Aspen
Revs Institute brings the Targa Florio-winning Porsche RS-60 to the inaugural F.A.T. International Ice Race in Aspen
This February, F.A.T. International and Ferdinand Porsche brought a taste of Zell-am-See to the Rockies.
At the inaugural F.A.T. Ice Race in Aspen, car lovers and gear heads descended on a snow-covered field to watch some incredible driving and celebrate automotive legacy. Revs Institute sent the Miles Collier Collections’ 1960 Porsche RS-60: yes, the very car that won the 1960 Targa Florio.
The Colorado slopes are a far cry from the dusty roads of Sicily, but the RS-60 would be in good company, joining two other Spyders from Porsche’s winning history. At the wheel was Porsche collector and Pikes Peak champion Jeff Zwart, who was later joined by ANDIAL co-founder Dieter Inzenhofer in the passenger seat.
We hope this exciting mix of old and new historic racers piqued the interest of fans in person (and online), encouraging them to learn more about keeping meaningful cars active in the world.

Revs Institute at Brian Redman’s Targa 66 in 2024
Revs Institute at Brian Redman’s Targa 66 in 2024
Brian Redman’s Targa 66 is more than a track event: it always feels like a family reunion. The warm welcome from organizers Brian Redman and his son James is matched by the friendly atmosphere of the paddock.
Brian began organizing track weekends in 1991 for owners of historic and modern high performance cars in need of exercise without the risks inherent in racing. Targa 66 members run a diverse group of cars, from open wheel formula single seaters to priceless historics to late model supercars. Held for many years at the now-defunct Palm Beach International Raceway, the February event moved to the Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2023. Spectators, too, come to the Speedway to enjoy the track action: these cars may not be racing, but they are certainly not going slowly.
This year, Revs Institute brought five vehicles from the Miles Collier Collections: the 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ, the 1969 Porsche 908 LH, the 1965 Ferrari 250 LM, the 1970 Porsche 914/6 GT, and the 1962 Austin Mini Seven. Targa 66 represents a prime opportunity to exercise race cars which are not legal to drive on public roads.

Revs Institute acquires treasures of Van Bever Photography Archive
Revs Institute acquires treasures of Van Bever Photography Archive
Revs Institute™ is proud to announce the acquisition of the photographs of André Van Bever, one of the preeminent motorsport photojournalists of the 20th century.
Comprised of over 29,000 images, the André Van Bever Photograph Collection will join over 120 archival collections already selected by Revs Institute for preservation. The images will be indexed and digitized, making Van Bever’s work accessible to researchers, scholars, and enthusiasts through the Revs Digital Library.

“Throughout his career, André Van Bever chronicled motor racing history, from Juan Manuel Fangio in 1949 to Niki Lauda in 1975, making him one of the most renowned visual witnesses of post-war motorsport,” says Scott George, Curator of Collections at Revs Institute.
Born in Brussels, Belgium, in 1922, diverse interests marked André’s early life, from trains to mountaineering and horseback riding. His family’s background in jewelry did not resonate with him, and photography became his true calling. The camera allowed him to explore his love for action, discovery, and artistry. André Van Bever’s career in photojournalism began in 1946 when, at the early age of 18, he covered a motorcycle race at the Bois de la Cambre in Brussels as a favor for a friend. It was at this same race he met writer and racing driver Paul Frère, who became his great friend and frequently used Van Bever’s photographs in his articles and books. André eventually befriended many of the great Belgian drivers of his time, including Olivier Gendebien, Lucien Bianchi, and Willy Mairesse.
In 1947, Van Bever began a 28-year tenure as the official photographer of Belgian newspaper Les Sports. Together with his wife and collaborator, Nicole Englebert-Van Bever, André covered the great European races of the 1950s and 1960s. Later, as a freelancer, he continued to cover racing until 1975. His work graced the pages of publications such as Royal Auto, Le Moniteur de l’Automobile, Sport Moteur, Virage, Autosport, Auto Motor und Sport, Car and Driver, and more. His commitment to preserving the history of motorsport and his artistic approach to photography made him an iconic figure in the industry.
Beyond motorsport, André Van Bever had an innate passion for photography that extended into his personal life. He documented friends, strangers, and the world around him, always seeking to capture the natural, living aspect of his subjects. He was an excellent gentleman-rider, too, and returned to racing horses at the age of 53.
“As a custodian of automotive history, I am delighted to see André Van Bever’s iconic photography find its home at Revs Institute,” says Miles Collier, founder of Revs Institute. “Through his lens, Van Bever’s work has immortalized the rich history of motorsport, and its inclusion in the Revs Digital Library ensures that it will continue to inspire and inform generations of automotive researchers, enthusiasts, and historians.”
Revs Institute wishes to recognize the efforts of Nicole Englebert-Van Bever, whose tireless efforts to preserve André Van Bever’s legacy have made this acquisition possible.

Welcome to the first episode of Active Matter, our new YouTube series! This in-depth series will give viewers unprecedented access to the behind-the-scenes work at our museum, workshop, and library. With over 120 historically significant vehicles to keep in working order, we want to share how our diverse team draws on many different disciplines to preserve the automobile and automotive culture for future generations.
This first episode focuses on the 1953 Cunningham C-5R, which placed third overall at Le Mans seventy years ago. Known as the ‘Smiling Shark,’ this thoroughly American racecar is truly one of one. Interviews with Miles C. Collier ("The Archaeological Automobile") and Matt Farah (Road & Track, @TheSmokingTire) offer insights into the car's history and handling. Introduced too is the term “active matter” and how it shapes our mission. Future episodes will feature a car on display at the museum, its story, and the people responsible for its preservation. The series will offer a front-row seat for the challenges that face our team, involving viewers in the experience of keeping these 'active artifacts' alive.
